Malignant mesothelioma is a rare form of cancer that starts in the mesothelium, the membrane that covers and protects most internal organs. The mesothelium is composed of two layers, one surrounding the organ itself and the other forms a sac around it epithelium.

What is mesothelioma?

Other forms are mesothelioma peritoneal, affecting the lining of the abdominal cavity, and mesothelioma pericardial, affecting the lining of the heart.
What causes mesothelioma?

Mesothelioma cancer is directed specifically to the mesothelial cells. Mesothelioma typically attacks the thin membrane lining of the lungs, abdomen or heart, known as the mesothelium. Anything that increases the risk of contracting the disease is called a risk factor. Having risk factors does not mean that you will get cancer, have no risk factors does not mean that you will get cancer. People who think they are in danger should discuss with your doctor.
Many people with malignant mesothelioma have worked or lived in places where they are inhaled or swallowed asbestos. After exposure to asbestos, usually takes a long time until it manifests malignant mesothelioma. Other risk factors for malignant mesothelioma include:
