Mesothelioma Disease
Mesothelioma is a rare disease that attacks the cells lining the body cavity called the mesothelium. Its only known cause is exposure to asbestos fibers.

Latency Period Of Mesothelioma
Usually, there are a lot of time between an individual’s exposure to asbestos and the onset of health complications related to asbestos. Mesothelioma is associated with a long latency period (often 20 to 50 years) after exposure. During a long period of time, filed asbestos fibers slowly ignite the outer tissues of the lungs, often acts as a precursor for developing malignant mesothelioma.

Mesothelioma Remission
Mesothelioma is one of the most aggressive forms of cancer. Mesothelioma often quickly metastasized from its origin in the lungs, abdominal cavity, and lymph nodes. Therefore, very few mesothelioma patients go into remission. However, if treated properly and early enough, many patients have been able to extend survival rates beyond previous expectations. Treatment options include surgical resection, chemotherapy, radiation and mesothelioma.

Mesothelioma Cure
While advances in the treatment of malignant mesothelioma have made great strides forward in recent years, there is no cure for mesothelioma. Patients who are diagnosed with early stage disease can survive for many years if the cancer is treated early with surgery, chemotherapy and radiation therapy. Many patients have also had success through the use of alternative therapies with conventional treatments for cancer.

Mesothelioma Survivors
While there is no cure for mesothelioma, many patients have had success in the management of cancer, not only with traditional treatments such as chemotherapy and surgical methods, but also through the use of nutritional supplements, palliative care, and stress reduction techniques of the body. Some patients diagnosed with mesothelioma have survived many years after what was initially a poor prognosis.

Mesothelioma Survival Rate
Mesothelioma currently has no known cure and, as such, the survival rate for mesothelioma is low. However, mesothelioma can be managed through the use of many different treatment options. aggressive therapies such as extra-pleural pneumonectomy have extended survival times beyond previous expectations for medical oncologists and mesothelioma.

Mesothelioma Life Expectancy
Life expectancy for those diagnosed with malignant mesothelioma depends on several factors, including patient’s general health, cancer stage at diagnosis and the patient’s eligibility for certain treatment options. People diagnosed with early stage cancer found in good health in general have a better prognosis than those diagnosed with advanced stage disease.

Mesothelioma Prevention
Mesothelioma is known only to be caused by exposure to asbestos, a fibrous mineral that was used for many years as a component of industrial insulation. As such, the best prevention is to avoid exposure mesothelioma asbestos. However, in recent years, doctors and cancer specialists have been developing a vaccine against mesothelioma arm the body’s immune system to fight cancer antibodies and antigens in those who are at risk for development of mesothelioma.

Adults Mesothelioma
Mesothelioma is most common in adults. Adults with a history of exposure to asbestos are usually those most at risk for developing malignant mesothelioma. It may take many years for people exposed to asbestos exposure to show the effects of the exposure, such as mesothelioma, is most often diagnosed in older people, often up to 40 years after exposure.

Child Mesothelioma
Childhood diagnosis of malignant mesothelioma is extremely rare but has been documented. Mesothelioma is known only to be caused by exposure to asbestos and has many years after exposure to asbestos to manifest in adults. In general, childhood mesothelioma is considered to be unrelated to asbestos exposure.

Women And Mesothelioma
Many women who have been diagnosed with mesothelioma had no direct exposure to asbestos work in industrial workplaces. Instead, they find they are victims of exposure to second-hand asbestos occurred while he washes the clothes of her husband came home from work with asbestos fibers in them.

Mesothelioma Vaccine
Recent studies by researchers in the Netherlands have found promising results for preventive therapies for mesothelioma. Use of antigens for cancer in the body’s immune system, patients with mesothelioma have responded positively in most cases when treated with the vaccine against mesothelioma. The hope now is that this therapy can be applied to those who may be at risk of developing mesothelioma in the future, particularly those who have been exposed to asbestos but have not yet developed asbestos disease.
